Rosalind W. Picard to Discuss How Emotion Technology Helps Makes Us More Human at TEDxSF

Waltham, MA (PRWEB) June 03, 2011

Affectiva co-founder and M.I.T. professor Rosalind W. Picard will discuss ways that new emotion measurement technology can help people overcome communication challenges at TEDxSF V: Alive! Maximum Living as a Human at the Yerba Buena Center for the Performing Arts, 701 Mission Street, San Francisco.

Dr. Picard founded and leads the affective computing initiative at the M.I.T. Media Lab, and wrote “Affective Computing”, the book that helped give rise to the field by that name. In 2009, she co-founded Affectiva with fellow M.I.T. researcher Rana el Kaliouby to help commercialize emotion technology for clinical and business uses.

At TEDxSF, Dr. Picard will share stories and data from humans — including an individual on the autism spectrum, a person with epilepsy and a bride at a traditional Indian wedding — who have benefited from using the Q Sensor, a wireless, wearable biosensor that measures key physical signals of emotions. Also, she will discuss findings from a recent interactive smile tracker on Forbes.com in which Affectiva’s Affdex technology analyzed over 3,000 videos of natural emotional expressions from people who volunteered to watch three Super Bowl 2011 commercials online.

TEDxSF V: Alive! Maximum Living as a Human will be held tomorrow, Saturday, June 4, from 12:00 to 6:00 p. m. with a reception and after-party to follow from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Limited event tickets are available through http://www.tedxsf.org. The event will be livecast at http://www.tedxsf.org and will use the social media tag #tedxsf.
